Family Sharing Vittora Pro without sharing your ledger
Apple’s Family Sharing is easy to misunderstand when the product is money. People hear “family” and assume one shared budget, one merged ledger, one place where everyone sees everyone else’s coffee runs. That is not how Vittora Pro works, and we are deliberate about saying so.
What can be shared is the Pro subscription. What stays private is each person’s ledger.
What Family Sharing actually shares
Vittora Pro is an in-app purchase (Monthly, Annual, or Lifetime) distributed through StoreKit. Only Annual and Lifetime are Family Shareable; Monthly is not. When Family Sharing is enabled for a shareable purchase in the App Store, eligible members of your Apple Family can use Pro features on their own devices under Apple’s Family Sharing rules without each person buying a separate Pro unlock.
That is a subscription (or lifetime entitlement) convenience. It is not a data merge.
Each family member who opens Vittora still has their own private ledger on their devices. Optional sync still uses their personal iCloud account. Family Sharing does not publish one person’s categories or transactions to the rest of the Apple Family.
Household budgets are not a merged ledger
Vittora can share a household: the budgets you put in it, and the expenses members log against those budgets. The share goes through the members’ iCloud. It does not go to a Vittora server. The owner chooses who can edit and who can only view.
That is not a merged personal ledger. Accounts, transactions, and the rest of each person’s history stay on that person’s devices and, if they turn sync on, in that person’s private iCloud. Family Sharing of Pro does not open this household, and the household does not require Pro.
Splits are a third thing. A split group shares a settlement through a link inside the ledger you already keep. It does not create the household, and the household does not replace it.
If you and a partner need to track who owes what, splits and the debt ledger are still the tools for that. CSV export is still there when you want a spreadsheet. The household is only for the budgets you choose to share.
How to think about setup
A practical pattern for families who want Pro:
- One adult purchases Vittora Pro (Annual or Lifetime) with Family Sharing available under Apple’s terms.
- Each person installs Vittora on their own iPhone, iPad, and Mac (and Watch, if they use wrist capture).
- Each person builds and keeps their own ledger, including their Free-tier capture habits. Pro planning tools unlock where Apple has granted the shared entitlement.
- Nobody expects to open the app and see another adult’s full transaction history.
That matches how Apple Family Sharing is designed for many apps: share access to the paid capability, not the user’s private documents.
What Pro still means for each person
Whether Pro arrived through an individual purchase or Family Sharing, the unlocked capabilities are the same on that person’s devices: educational tax estimates for India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, forward-looking reports, and unlimited receipt OCR. The Free private ledger still includes budgets, goals, splits, household budgets, widgets, Watch entry, CSV, net worth over time, and optional private iCloud sync.
Paying, or receiving a shared Pro entitlement, still does not move the ledger onto a Vittora server. It still does not add bank aggregation. It still does not merge two personal ledgers.
The one-line summary
Family Sharing can share Vittora Pro. It does not share your ledger.
